JSL, or Jewish Senior Life, is one of the most beloved and longest-standing senior living centers in the Metro Detroit Region.

The stories of seniors often don’t get treated with the level of reverence or care that they deserve. My aim with this piece was to encourage and celebrate seniors to live life in a network of support, excitement, and community.

This was also deep into the pandemic, where there was much hesitation around the idea of filming in-person, for fear of putting the seniors’ health at risk. That’s why I suggested animation; something most senior centers probably don’t get proposed. Not only did it solve our in-person challenges, but it also felt like an artful way to express why this organization’s mission is so important and beautiful.
